Workshop Schedule:

4pm - Registration/check in/warm up

4:30 - Workshop begins on time, please come early to change shoes and warm up

5:45 - Water break and practice time

6pm - Workshop continues building on the first session

7:15 - Workshop ends. I hope you can join us for a social time after the workshop for drinks/food at local restaurants :)

Overview:

This 2.5 hour workshop will introduce some wonderful vernacular jazz steps and how to integrate them into partner dancing, as well as include learning musicality, lead/follow techniques, styling and of course tons of fun!

​

I coined the phrase Swing-copations in the 1990s, when I used to bring Chazz Young to Portland to teach workshops with me. We combined fabulous vernacular jazz steps with Lindy to create some wonderful combinations. Chazz Young is Frankie's son, a wonderful Lindy Hop dancer, and also was one of Norma Miller's Jazz Men - who toured with her for many years. He is a professional tap dancer and performer who is internationally known in Lindy circles.

This workshop will not be divided into two different sessions. The entire workshop will build upon itself - so please plan on attending the entire workshop.

​

I tend to share a few historical tidbits while teaching, in order to keep the history alive. I don't do a separate story time but would be happy to address any questions you might have about the history of Lindy Hop.

I am delighted to be teaching at Dance with Joy Dance Studios, in Sellwood, owned by Rachel Lidskog-Lim and Jack Lim. Rachel and I go way back to Frankie days when I used to bring him to Portland annually. This is a beautiful studio with a fabulous floor, please bring separate DANCE shoes to respect this gorgeous wooden floor! It also has wonderful mirrors, AIR CONDITIONING, and plenty of parking. It is a lovely dance studio - if you are not familiar with it, you will fall in love with this dance studio!

I am so looking forward to sharing with you some of my favourite steps I used to dance with Frankie and Chazz - I hope you will join me for this very special workshop, as I now live in England and only visit occasionally.
